ATA/AEDC - Arnold Air Force Base
Arnold Engineering Development
Center is the world’s largest and most complex collection of
flight simulation test facilities. The 4,000 acres that comprise
AEDC are part of the 40,000 acres of Arnold Air Force Base.
Dedicated June 25, 1951, by
President Harry Truman, AEDC has tested virtually every high
performance aero-space system the Department of Defense has used
since.

Program Highlights:
The Arnold
Engineering Development Center, at Arnold Air Force Base in Tennessee,
has focused efforts toward an improved infrared program as a result of
their continuous improvement program. As their equipment ages, the need
for improving inspections and making work more effective becomes
imperative. The Infrared (IR) program team installed and implemented
over 50 infrared windows in electrical equipment of up to 13.8 kV. The
goal of the infrared program is increase safety and to decrease lost
test time, improve equipment health, and detect impending failures.
Infrared windows reduce man-hours required to perform infrared
inspections, they increase safety of the inspections, and, by reducing
the hours required to perform the inspections.
