Calpine Corp.
As an Independent Power Producer,
Calpine Corporation is helping meet the needs of an
economy that demands more and cleaner sources of electricity. Founded in
1984, Calpine is a major U.S. power company, operating nearly 90
facilities and capable of delivering nearly 24,500 megawatts. The
company owns, leases and operates the most environmentally friendly
power plant fleet in the world. All of its plants are either fueled by
clean natural gas or renewable geothermal steam.
The South Point Energy Center, is a
530 MW Natural gas-fired plant with two combustion turbines and one
steam turbine, located in Mojave, AZ. It was constructed and operates
under a contract with the Fort Mojave Indian Tribe and commercial
operation began in June 2001.
Program Highlights:
We were very impressed
with the program results being tied into high level
business metrics in addition to traditional maintenance
metrics and with the excellent Root Cause Analysis
program Calpine has developed. High level visibility
and direct feedback/acknowledgement from upper
management was especially impressive.
The case of the voids
detected on the Rotor bars with online motor testing
causing the OEM to provide "warranty" repairs, even
though the warranty period had passed grabbed all of our
attention and points to the value of such a program -
further enhanced because of the depth of your fleet -
cause us to focus our acknowledgement on that element of
the PdM program and award the best Motor Testing Program
award to Calpine.
